Registration Information Extension of Designation of El Salvador for TPS: The 18-month extension of El Salvador's TPS designation begins on March 10, 2025, and will remain in effect for 18 months, ending on September 9, 2026.

The extension allows existing TPS beneficiaries to retain TPS through October 2, 2026, if they otherwise continue to meet the eligibility requirements for TPS.

The extension of TPS for Venezuelans runs from April 3, 2025, to October 2, 2026, and allows approximately 600,000 eligible current beneficiaries to retain TPS through October 2, 2026, if they re-register and continue to meet TPS eligibility requirements.

How long does it take to approve TPS? The processing time for a TPS application ranges from 10 to 18 months for most applicants. Form I-821 processing times are affected by several factors such as designated country, initial or re-registration, and service center.

To obtain an EAD that is valid after Aug. 3, 2025, holders of these EADs must re-register for TPS and file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, following the instructions in the Federal Register notice extending and redesignating Haiti for TPS until Feb. 3, 2026.

If you are a TPS beneficiary applying for a new travel authorization document, you should continue to use Form I-131, Application for Travel Document. If you have a pending Form I-131, you do not need to file a new application.

The TPS program for El Salvador will be extended through March 2026, while the designations for Sudan, Ukraine and Venezuela will be extended through October 2026.

If you have TPS and wish to travel outside the United States, you must apply for travel authorization. If we approve your request, we will issue you a Form I-512T, Authorization for Travel by a Noncitizen to the United States, to serve as evidence of DHS's prior consent to your travel outside the United States.

To apply for TPS travel authorization or advance parole, you must file Form I-131, Application for Travel Document. If you are filing Form I-131 together with Form I-821, send your forms to the address listed for your country.

The travel document usually arrives within 150 days (sometimes longer) after submitting your application. You can't leave the country until you have your approved travel document in hand, so you should expect to spend the 3–5 months after submitting your green card application in the United States.
