A person commits forgery if, with intent to defraud, the person: 1. Falsely makes, completes or alters a written instrument; or 2.Whoever, with intent to injure or defraud, does any of the following is guilty of forgery and may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than three years. ARS § 13-2002 defines Arizona's forgery law. Minnesota takes forgery seriously. Anyone convicted of it can be sentenced to jail for up to 3 years. The law defines forgery as the making of a fake document, the modification of an existing document, or the unauthorized signing of a signature. It is unlawful to utter or possess with intent to utter any forged item, document, or object.
