You must be continuously physically present in California for more than one year (366 days) immediately prior to the residence determination date. A California resident must have resided In California for one (1) year and one (1) day prior to the student's residence determination date.The Admissions Office is responsible for determining the residency status of Cal State LA applicants and students for CSU tuition purposes. Continuing nonresident students who feel they meet UC requirements may petition to be classified as a resident for tuition purposes. Residency is also one of the factors that determines whether students qualify for certain types financial aid. The CCCCO is working to develop a process that enables a community college district to accept the residence determination of another community. To establish residency a student must be able to prove eligibility, through physical presence and the intent to make California their state of residency.
