Domicile refers to the place you call home permanently. Your domicile is important for legal purposes such as paying taxes, voting, and claiming benefits.A residence is a place of some permanency, while a domicile is a true, fixed permanent home to which an individual intends to return after an absence. We have decades of experience litigating "move away" cases, and can assist in matters involving change of domicile, child custody, parenting time, and more! Simply put, your domicile is your home—the state you consider your permanent place of residence. You must reside in California for more than one year (366 days) before you will be eligible to be classified as a resident for tuition purposes. The Just Cause for Eviction Ordinance prohibits a property owner from terminating a tenancy without good or just cause. Basically the terms "domicile" and "legal residence" refer to the same place – the state you consider your permanent home.
