While residence refers to where you currently live, domicile is your fixed, permanent home where you intend to remain long-term. Domicile refers to the place you call home permanently.Your domicile is important for legal purposes such as paying taxes, voting, and claiming benefits. A residence is a place of some permanency, while a domicile is a true, fixed permanent home to which an individual intends to return after an absence. Domicile is more permanent and is essentially somebody's home base. Voting domicile is defined in Elections Code Section 349. (a) "Residence" for voting purposes means a person's domicile. You will need to fill out your registered domicile on the application form, so please research it beforehand. New home construction or additions may need a Single-Family House Permit from the Planning Division before a building permit will be issued.
