As of April 1, 2026, a valid boater safety certificate will be required for the operation of motorboats and PWCs in Massachusetts. Anyone born after January 1, 1989, has until April 1, 2026, to obtain their certificate, provided that no operator shall be assessed a penalty until September 1, 2026.
Vessels while operating must carry: a personal floatation device of good condition for each person on board; one USCG approved throwable device; oar/paddle, bailing bucket and stout rope at least one boat length; whistle/horn, fire extinguisher and navigation lights if operating at night.
Rental Requirements: We require is a valid drivers license, no boating license is required in Massachusetts. You must be at least 21 years old. You must have a credit card to make a $100 deposit to reserve the boat. Renters and drivers must be able to understand and speak English fluently.
You need a gun permit, you do have to take it to and from the boat. B. if you do or don't have a permit to carry if it is not ON YOU, then it must be stored unloaded in either a safe, or with a trigger lock in ance with Mass state law.
