Description International Travel Requirements For Minors

For a minor under the age of 18 to travel out of the United States without both parents or legal guardians, a notarized affidavit should be obtained and presented to immigration officials upon departure and return to the United States. Failure to present this affidavit may result in officials refusing the minor to leave the country. This form should be completed and then signed in front of a Notary Public. You must carry this notarized affidavit with you. It is recommended that you also carry birth certificates or any other supporting documents.

This form also grants the adult with temporary custody of the minor the right to seek medical treatment for the minor during the trip.

Minor travel on Southwest Airlines refers to the process and policies associated with children traveling unaccompanied or with minimal adult supervision on Southwest Airlines flights. This service allows parents or legal guardians to ensure their children safely navigate through their journey from departure to arrival. Southwest Airlines offers two types of Minor travel services: the Unaccompanied Minor Program and the Youth Travel Program. 1. Unaccompanied Minor Program: The Unaccompanied Minor Program is designed for children between the ages of 5 and 11 who are flying alone. This service provides assistance and supervision throughout the travel process, ensuring their safety and comfort. Key features of the Unaccompanied Minor Program include: a. Booking and Check-in: Caregivers must call Southwest Airlines Reservations to book a reservation for an unaccompanied minor. At the time of booking, they will receive specific instructions and necessary documentation. b. Escort Service: Southwest Airlines provides an escort service for unaccompanied children from check-in to their final destination. The designated adult must remain at the departure airport until the flight is airborne. Upon arrival, an approved adult must meet the child at the designated arrival area. c. Communication: Southwest Airlines staff stay in constant communication with the parent or guardian throughout the flight, informing them of any updates, delays, or changes. d. Special Boarding: Unaccompanied minors receive priority boarding to ensure a smooth and worry-free experience. e. Special Care In-Flight: Flight attendants keep a watchful eye on the unaccompanied minors during the flight, assisting them with any needs and making them feel comfortable. 2. Youth Travel Program: Southwest Airlines also offers the Youth Travel Program for children between the ages of 12 and 17 who are traveling without an adult companion, although it is optional for this age group. Unlike the Unaccompanied Minor Program, the Youth Travel Program does not include the same level of supervision and care. Features of the Youth Travel Program include: a. Independent Travel: Children aged 12 to 17 traveling without an adult can take advantage of the Youth Travel Program to gain some independence while flying. b. No Escort Service: Unlike the Unaccompanied Minor Program, there is no designated Southwest Airlines staff member responsible for escorting youth travelers. They navigate the airport and flight independently. c. Parental Consent: Parents or guardians must complete and sign relevant forms, providing consent for their child to travel without adult supervision. d. Communication: As with unaccompanied minors, Southwest Airlines staff stays in touch with parents or guardians, providing necessary updates and information. It is important to note that Southwest Airlines has specific guidelines, requirements, and fees associated with Minor travel, varying depending on the program and destination. Caregivers should review Southwest Airlines' official website or contact their reservations department for the most up-to-date information and to ensure a seamless experience for their traveling minors.
