There are two types of Alaska Request for Telephonic Appearance of Incarcerated Defendant: Emergency and Standard. Emergency Request is used when a defendant's appearance is necessary immediately. This may be done if the defendant is not able to be physically present in court due to extenuating circumstances. Standard Request is used when a defendant's appearance is not necessary immediately but may be necessary in the future. This may be done if the defendant is in the process of being transferred to another facility or is unable to physically appear due to health reasons. The Alaska Request for Telephonic Appearance of Incarcerated Defendant is a form that must be filled out and signed by the judge to grant permission for the defendant to appear in court via telephone. It includes the defendant's name, the case number, the court hearing date, and the telephone number from which the defendant will be making the call. It also includes a statement from the defendant's attorney affirming that the defendant has been informed of the hearing date and time and is available to appear telephonically.
