The Alaska Notice of Emergency Detention and Application for Evaluation is a legal document used to initiate the emergency detention of an individual believed to have a mental illness. There are two types of Alaska Notice of Emergency Detention and Application for Evaluation: the Adult Notice and the Minor Notice. The Adult Notice is used to initiate the emergency detention of an adult. The individual must meet certain criteria including: having a mental illness, being a danger to self or others, and being incapable of providing for their own safety. The adult must be taken to a hospital or clinic for evaluation and treatment. The Minor Notice is used to initiate the emergency detention of a minor. The individual must meet the same criteria as the adult, but also must be under the age of 18. The minor must be taken to a hospital or clinic for evaluation and treatment. Both notices must be signed by a qualified mental health professional and must include the reason for the emergency detention, the name of the individual, and the name of the hospital or clinic where the individual will be taken. The notices must be submitted to the court within 14 days of the emergency detention.
