An Alaska 20-Day Ex Parte Order of Protection from Financial Abuse is a court order that provides protection from financial exploitation from a family or household member. This order can be issued in cases of immediate danger and can be issued without the abuser being present or made aware of it. It can include a variety of protections such as: stopping the abuser from accessing the victim's finances, freezing bank accounts, preventing the abuser from using the victim's credit cards, preventing the abuser from taking out loans in the victim's name, and preventing the abuser from selling or transferring the victim's property. There are two types of Alaska 20-Day Ex Parte Order of Protection from Financial Abuse: a temporary order and a permanent order. A temporary order is valid for 20 days and can be extended for another 20 days if necessary. A permanent order is valid for up to one year and can be renewed each year.
