Alaska Request for Court Sponsored Minor Guardianship Mediation is a process designed to assist parents in resolving disputes regarding guardianship of a minor child. This process is available to parents who are unable to reach an agreement through the traditional court process or through private mediation. It allows the court to appoint a mediator to help the parties reach a mutually agreeable resolution. The mediator is a neutral third party who helps the parents identify issues, discuss potential solutions, and reach an agreement that is in the best interests of the minor child. There are two types of Alaska Request for Court Sponsored Minor Guardianship Mediation: Consent Mediation and Contested Mediation. Consent Mediation is used when the parties have already agreed to a guardianship arrangement, but they need assistance in formalizing the agreement. In Contested Mediation, the parties do not agree on the guardianship arrangement, and they need assistance in negotiating and creating a plan that is in the best interests of the minor child.
