The Alaska Guardianship and Conservatorship Mediation Program is a court-sponsored mediation program that assists adults with disabilities in Alaska. It seeks to provide a safe and efficient process for resolving disputes between a guardian and conservator and the subject of the guardianship or conservatorship. The program seeks to provide an opportunity for parties to come to a resolution that is best for the individual and to avoid lengthy and costly court proceedings. This program is available to all Alaskans, including Native Alaskans, free of charge. The program consists of two types of mediation: Guardianship Mediation and Conservatorship Mediation. Guardianship Mediation seeks to resolve disputes between a guardian and a ward, while Conservatorship Mediation seeks to resolve disputes between a conservator and a protected person. The mediator will facilitate discussions between the parties, help them identify issues, and assist them in developing a resolution. The mediator will also provide information to the parties about the guardianship and conservatorship process, their rights and responsibilities, and other available services.
