Alaska Anchorage Wellness Felony Drug Court (AAW FD) is an alternative court program for non-violent felony offenders who have been charged with drug-related offenses. The program provides an intensive, comprehensive treatment and supervision approach to address the underlying causes of criminal behavior. The goal of the program is to reduce recidivism and improve long-term public safety in Anchorage, Alaska. AAW FD is divided into two phases — an Intensive Treatment Phase and a Long-Term Supervision Phase. During the Intensive Treatment Phase, participants receive intensive case management and treatment services, such as individual and group therapy, drug testing, and court appearances. During the Long-Term Supervision Phase, participants are monitored by AAW FD personnel and are required to participate in activities such as drug testing, treatment services, and court appearances. The program also includes incentives for participants who successfully complete all phases, such as reduced sentences or probation terms. Additionally, participants who fail to comply with the program requirements may be subject to sanctions such as increased supervision, penalties, or referral to other programs. There are three types of AAW FD courts: the Anchorage Wellness Felony Drug Court; the South Anchorage Wellness Felony Drug Court; and the Eagle River Wellness Felony Drug Court.
