Fairbanks Wellness Court
Alaska Fairbanks Wellness Court is an innovative form of criminal justice that provides an alternative to traditional court proceedings. It is a collaborative approach to addressing the needs of those who have committed crimes and are at risk of reoffending. The program combines elements of the criminal justice system with a comprehensive and holistic approach to rehabilitation and reintegration into the community. The court operates under the supervision of a presiding judge, who is responsible for overseeing the proceedings and making decisions regarding sentencing, disposition, and outcome. The court is composed of a team of individuals, including a judge, prosecutors, defense attorneys, probation officers, treatment providers, mental health professionals, and other community members. The Alaska Fairbanks Wellness Court provides an opportunity for individuals to receive the help they need to address the root causes of their criminal behavior and to successfully reintegrate into the community. The program is designed to reduce recidivism and improve public safety. The court offers a variety of services and programs, including drug and alcohol treatment, mental health services, job training, and education. Participants are held accountable through regular court hearings, where the judge reviews progress and sets goals for continued success. There are two types of Alaska Fairbanks Wellness Court: Adult Wellness Court and Juvenile Wellness Court. Adult Wellness Court is designed for individuals aged 18 and over whom have committed a crime and are at risk of reoffending. Juvenile Wellness Court is designed for individuals aged 17 and under whom have committed a crime and are at risk of reoffending.
