Alaska Anchorage Veterans Court (AAC) is a specialized court designed to provide justice-involved veterans with tailored treatment and services to address their needs. It is a collaboration between the Alaska Court System, the Anchorage District Attorney's Office, the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, and a variety of community partners. The court is designed to provide justice-involved veterans with the opportunity to receive the counseling, support services, and treatment they need to ensure successful rehabilitation. The AAC is a problem-solving court that uses a team-based approach to identify and address the underlying issues that bring veterans to court. The court works to ensure veterans receive the help they need to successfully complete probation and reintegrate into the community. The court combines the principles of restorative justice with a holistic approach that includes treatment, education, and community service. There are two types of Alaska Anchorage Veterans Court: the Veterans Treatment Court and the Veterans Reentry Court. The Veterans Treatment Court is designed to provide veterans who are facing criminal charges with the opportunity to receive treatment and services to address their needs, as well as to provide them with the opportunity to successfully complete probation. The Veterans Reentry Court is designed to provide veterans with the opportunity to receive treatment and services to address their needs, as well as to provide them with the opportunity to successfully reintegrate into the community.
