Alaska HIPAA Authorization is a type of authorization that follows the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to protect the privacy of an individual’s health information. This authorization is required for health care providers, insurers, and other covered entities in Alaska to use and disclose an individual’s protected health information (PHI). This authorization allows individuals to control how their PHI is used and disclosed for treatment, payment, and health care operations. There are two types of Alaska HIPAA Authorization, including a standard authorization and a special authorization. A standard authorization is used when PHI needs to be used or disclosed for purposes other than treatment, payment, and health care operations. A special authorization is used when PHI needs to be used or disclosed for purposes other than treatment, payment, and health care operations and involves the sale, transfer, or disclosure of protected health information.
