The Alaska Report of Indian Adoptive Placement (TRIP) is a form used by the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DSS) to document the placement of an Alaska Native or American Indian child with an adoptive family. The report is required to be completed by the licensed child-placing agency or the Department of Family and Youth Services and must be filed with the DSS prior to the finalization of an adoption. The TRIP includes information about the adoptive family, the adopted child, and the child's biological parents. It also includes documentation of the child's Native heritage, a description of the placement process, and a review of the adoptive family's home study. There are two types of Alaska Report of Indian Adoptive Placement: the full TRIP and the abbreviated TRIP. The full TRIP is used when a child has Native heritage that is not documented by other sources. The abbreviated TRIP is used when the child’s Native heritage is already documented by other sources, such as a birth certificate or tribal enrollment.
