Alaska Ethel Therapeutic Court is a specialty court which focuses on providing treatment, rather than punishment, for individuals with substance abuse and/or mental health issues. It is a collaboration among the court system, social services, mental health professionals, and substance abuse treatment providers. It helps participants make positive changes in their lives through treatment, support, and accountability. The court seeks to reduce recidivism and improve the quality of life for participants. Alaska Ethel Therapeutic Court includes three types of courts: Drug Court, Mental Health Court, and Reentry Court. Drug Court is designed for individuals who have been charged with a criminal offense related to drug or alcohol use. Mental Health Court is for individuals with mental health issues who have been charged with a criminal offense. Reentry Court is for individuals who have been released from incarceration and are reentering the community.
