Alaska Fairbanks Veterans Court is a court-supervised treatment and rehabilitation program for veterans who have been charged with a crime. The program provides an alternative to traditional court proceedings and seeks to reduce recidivism and enhance public safety by addressing the underlying issues that led to a veteran’s involvement in the criminal justice system. The court is available to veterans who reside in the Fairbanks North Star Borough and the surrounding area. The court consists of three different types of Veterans Court: the Traditional Track, the Intensive Track, and the Holistic Track. The Traditional Track is designed for veterans who have committed a non-violent misdemeanor offense and are in need of treatment and support services. The court works to rehabilitate offenders and provide them with the necessary resources and services to help them become successful members of the community. The Intensive Track is for veterans who have committed a felony and are in need of a more intensive level of intervention and treatment services. This track provides veterans with a more structured approach to rehabilitation and includes increased levels of supervision and support. The Holistic Track is for veterans who have an underlying mental health diagnosis or substance abuse problem. This track is designed to address the root causes of the veteran’s involvement in the criminal justice system, rather than just focusing on the crime itself. The court provides veterans with access to counseling, job training, and other services to help them become productive members of the community.
