The Alaska Child in Need of Aid (CHINA) Mediation Program is a state-funded initiative that provides free mediation services to families with a child in need of aid. The program is designed to help families resolve disputes related to the child's safety, well-being, and permanency. It also provides families with an opportunity to develop and maintain positive relationships through communication and negotiation. The Alaska CHINA Mediation Program offers two types of mediation services. The first is Family Mediation, which is designed for families to discuss difficult issues and make decisions about a child’s care and placement, and to create plans for the future. The second type of mediation is Parental Mediation, which is designed to help parents reach agreements on parenting plans, including custody, visitation, and decision-making. The program is accessible to families, regardless of income. Mediation services are provided by trained, certified mediators who are experienced in family dynamics and dispute resolution, and work to create a safe and respectful environment. The mediators remain neutral throughout the process and provide guidance and support to the family.
