The Alaska Guardianship and Conservatorship Mediation Program is a voluntary process offered by the Alaska Court System to help family members resolve disputes over guardianship and conservatorship. This program is designed to provide a safe and confidential forum for family members to resolve their differences without the need for court action. The program is free of charge and staffed by mediators who are available to meet with family members in order to help them come to an agreement on guardianship and conservatorship issues. The mediators are trained professionals who are experienced in handling these types of disputes, and who are knowledgeable about Alaska law. There are two types of Alaska Guardianship and Conservatorship Mediation Program: Guardianship Mediation and Conservatorship Mediation. Guardianship Mediation helps family members resolve disputes regarding the appointment of a guardian or conservator for an incapacitated person. Conservatorship Mediation helps family members resolve disputes regarding the management of financial resources or other assets of a person who is unable to make these decisions for themselves. Both Guardianship and Conservatorship Mediation are designed to provide a safe and confidential forum for family members to discuss their differences and to reach an agreement that is agreeable to all parties. The mediators are available to provide guidance and assistance to family members in reaching an agreement.
