Alaska Suspended Imposition of Sentence (SIS) is a sentencing option that allows a person convicted of a crime to avoid having a conviction on their record if they comply with certain conditions. The conditions normally include successful completion of probation or community service, payment of fines, and payment of restitution. If the conditions are met, the court may suspend the imposition of the sentence and the defendant will not have a criminal record. There are two types of Alaska Suspended Imposition of Sentence. The first is a Standard SIS which requires the defendant to comply with the conditions imposed by the court. The second is an Enhanced SIS which involves the defendant completing a period of probation and completing any approved programs, such as drug or alcohol treatment, or anger management. If the conditions are met, the SIS will remain in effect for a set period of time and the charges will be dismissed at the end of the period.
