Alaska Custody & Visitation Order (long), SHC-1121, is a court order that is used to establish the living arrangements, custody, and visitation rights of parents and children involved in a divorce. It provides detailed arrangements regarding the physical and legal custody of the child, the visitation rights of each parent, and other arrangements such as who has the right to make decisions about the children’s education, religious upbringing, medical care, and other matters. This order also outlines the financial obligations of both parents and provides for the payment of child support. There are two types of Alaska Custody & Visitation Order (long), SHC-1121: the Joint Custody and the Sole Custody Order. The Joint Custody Order allows both parents to have legal and physical custody of the child, although it does not necessarily mean that the child will have equal time with each parent. The Sole Custody Order grants sole legal and physical custody of the child to one parent. Both types of orders can be modified if there is a material change in circumstances.
