Alabama Elder Abuse Protection Order (EAO) is a court order granting legal protection to elderly individuals who are victims of physical, psychological, or financial abuse. It is issued by a judge in response to a petition filed by an elderly individual or their legal guardians in the state of Alabama. The order can be used to protect elderly individuals from physical abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, or any other form of mistreatment. The order also allows for measures to be taken to prevent further abuse and provides legal remedies to ensure the elderly individual's safety and well-being. There are two types of EAO: Temporary and Permanent. A Temporary EAO is issued by the court for a period of time, usually up to 30 days, and can be extended if necessary. It provides protection to the elderly individual while the court considers the petition for a Permanent EAO. A Permanent EAO is issued by the court if the petition is approved and is valid for up to two years. It provides long-term protection for the elderly individual from any form of abuse.
