Alabama Request to be Guardian of an Intellectually Disabled Adult Relative is a legal request that an individual makes in order to gain guardianship of an intellectually disabled adult relative in the state of Alabama. This document is also known as an Application to be Appointed Guardian of an Intellectually Disabled Adult and must be filed in the Probate Court of the county where the disabled adult resides. The application typically requires the applicant to provide information about themselves, the disabled adult’s current living arrangements, medical history, and any other relevant information. Additionally, the applicant must provide letters from two qualified medical professionals, attesting to the necessity of a guardian, in order for the court to consider their request. There are two types of Alabama Request to be Guardian of an Intellectually Disabled Adult Relative: (1) Statutory Limited Guardianship and (2) Plenary Guardianship. Statutory Limited Guardianship limits the guardian’s authority to specific areas such as education, healthcare, and finances. Plenary Guardianship gives the guardian the same rights and authority as a parent, including the right to make all decisions for the disabled adult.
