Alabama Adult Sex Offender Homeless Acknowledgement and Registration is a program created by the Alabama Department of Corrections to better monitor, track, and register individuals living in homeless shelters who are classified as adult sex offenders. This program requires all homeless adult sex offenders to register at the local sheriff’s office within 72 hours of their address becoming known. Offenders must provide their name, date of birth, Social Security number, physical description, address, and a photograph of themselves. There are two types of registrants: those who are required to register with the sheriff’s office for life and those who are only required to register for a fixed period of time. The offenders must also notify the sheriff’s office within 72 hours if they change their address or move to another state. If the offender fails to comply with the registration requirements, they may be charged with a Class C felony.
