An Arizona Summons is a legal document issued by the court to the defendant in a civil case. It is a form of legal notice that informs the defendant of the lawsuit against them, the court where the action will take place, the date and time of the hearing, and other important information regarding the case. There are two types of Arizona Summons — Original Summons and Special Summons. An Original Summons is issued in the beginning of the legal process and requires the defendant to appear in court to answer to the lawsuit. A Special Summons is issued after the Original Summons is served and usually requires the defendant to answer to the complaint or produce documents. It is important to note that an Arizona Summons can only be served by a licensed process server.
