Arizona Transaction Privilege Use and Severance Tax Return (TPT) is a tax imposed by the state of Arizona on the privilege of doing business in the state. It is a multi-level tax applied to the gross proceeds of sales or gross income of businesses engaged in business in Arizona. The TPT is imposed on the privilege of doing business in Arizona at the rate of 5.6% on the first $50,000 of gross income or gross proceeds and 6.6% on any amount above $50,000. The Arizona Transaction Privilege Use and Severance Tax Return must be filed by all businesses that are registered to collect TPT in the state of Arizona. There are two types of returns: a Regular TPT Return and a Severance Tax Return. The Regular TPT Return must be filed by all businesses on a quarterly basis, whereas the Severance Tax Return must be filed on an annual basis. Both returns must include the total gross proceeds of sales or gross income and the corresponding TPT tax due. Businesses are also required to remit any TPT taxes that are due with their returns. Failure to file the return or remit the taxes due may result in penalties or other sanctions.
