The Arizona Declaration Supporting Publication (ADS) is a document that was created by the Arizona State Board of Education to provide guidance to Arizona schools and school districts when making decisions about which textbooks, instructional materials, and other educational resources to use in the classroom. The ADS outline the expectations schools should meet when selecting materials, including criteria for selecting materials based on accuracy, relevance, or appropriateness. It also provides guidance on how to handle controversial topics in the classroom. There are three types of Asps: 1) Core ADS, which is the foundational document outlining the expectations for the selection of materials in Arizona schools; 2) Supplemental Asps, which provide additional guidance on specific topics; and 3) ADS Reviews, which are conducted by the State Board of Education to ensure materials meet the criteria outlined in the Core ADS.
