Arizona Permanent Guardianship and/or Conservatorship for a Minor is a legal relationship that is established when a court appoints an individual or organization to make decisions on behalf of a minor. This may be done when the minor's parents are unable or unwilling to make decisions on their own behalf. There are two types of Permanent Guardianship and/or Conservatorship for a Minor in Arizona: Guardianship of the Person and Conservatorship of the Estate. Guardianship of the Person is an arrangement in which an adult is appointed to make decisions concerning the minor’s health, education, and welfare. It also includes the right to provide the minor with a safe and secure home and to consent to medical care for the minor. Conservatorship of the Estate is an arrangement in which an adult is appointed to manage the minor’s finances, including the power to receive, invest, and manage the minor’s assets. The conservator is also responsible for filing an annual accounting of the minor’s finances with the court.
