California Homestead Declaration (Los Angeles) is a legal document that allows homeowners in California to declare a portion of their home as their primary residence and protect it from creditors in the event of bankruptcy or other financial hardship. This document must be recorded with the Los Angeles County Recorder’s Office in order for the homestead to take effect. The California Homestead Declaration (Los Angeles) offers two distinct types of protection: exemption from forced sale and protection from creditors. The exemption from forced sale applies to the home and up to $75,000 of equity in it, while the protection from creditors applies to up to $175,000 of equity in the home. Both of these protections are available to all California homeowners who properly declare their homestead. Additionally, the California Homestead Declaration (Los Angeles) also covers mobile homes and manufactured homes that are permanently attached to the land.
