California Request For Consultative Rating, or CRC, is a service provided by the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) to evaluate the safety and health of a workplace. The CRC allows employers to request a free, onsite evaluation of their workplace to identify any potential hazards and compliance issues that may exist. The evaluation is conducted by an experienced consultant from the DIR and includes an assessment of the workplace, interview of employees, and review of documents. Depending on the complexity of the evaluation, the consultant may also perform additional testing. The CRC provides three levels of ratings: Good, Needs Improvement, and Unsatisfactory. A rating of Good indicates that the workplace is in compliance with applicable safety and health regulations. A rating of Needs Improvement indicates that the workplace is compliant but needs improvement in certain areas. A rating of Unsatisfactory indicates that the workplace is not compliant with applicable safety and health regulations and requires immediate corrective action.
