This process is designed to help birth parents adjust to their new reality and to provide them with ongoing support and information about the adoption. This counseling is offered by the state of Connecticut and is provided free of charge. There are two types of Connecticut Affidavit Birth Parent Post-Birth Counseling/Identified Adoption (New 10/17): in-person counseling, and online counseling. In-person counseling is provided by a qualified, licensed mental health professional and offers parents the opportunity to meet with a counselor and discuss their feelings and experiences surrounding the adoption. Online counseling is provided through an online platform, such as Skype, and allows parents to communicate with a counselor from the comfort of their own home. Both forms of counseling are designed to provide support and guidance to birth parents and to ensure that their needs are met.
