Connecticut Reimbursement Child Forensic Interview (CR-CFI) is a specialized form of interviewing that is used to assess the credibility of a child’s testimony in cases of suspected child abuse. The CR-CFI is designed to ensure that a child’s testimony is obtained in a safe and non-traumatic manner. The CR-CFI is conducted by a trained, certified interviewer in a setting that is confidential and without a parent or other adult present. The interviewer utilizes a variety of techniques, such as open-ended questions, to gather information from the child that can be used to evaluate the credibility of the child’s testimony. There are three types of CR-CFI: the Initial Forensic Interview, the Follow-Up Forensic Interview, and the Videotaped Forensic Interview. The Initial Forensic Interview is conducted by a trained interviewer and is the first step in the process. The purpose of this interview is to gather information from the child and assess the child’s credibility. The Follow-Up Forensic Interview is conducted by the same interviewer as the initial interview and is used to clarify any information that was not clear in the initial interview. The Videotaped Forensic Interview is conducted by a trained and certified interviewer and is used to obtain a videotaped record of the child’s testimony.
