Permanent Employment (Full Time)Typical full time schedules in DDS are either 35, 37.5 or 40 hours per week dependant upon the specific conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. The majority of full time positions in DDS direct care settings are established with 35 hour per week schedules.

Mercantile trade employers, which includes retail establishments, must pay employees for a minimum of four (4) hours at their regular rate regardless of the number of hours actually worked if the employees are required by or received permission from the employer to show up or report to work.

Mandatory Workday Lunch / Meal Breaks in Connecticut Connecticut requires that employees be provided a ½ hour lunch break after the first 2 hours of work and before the last 2 hours of work, for employees who work 7A½ consecutive hours or more in a shift.

Permanent Employment (Full Time) The majority of full time positions in DDS direct care settings are established with 35 hour per week schedules. Individuals employed in permanent full time positions are entitled to health insurance, retirement and leave benefits.

The bill defined part-time employment to mean regularly scheduled work of up to 32 hours per week or less than 64 hours over two weeks.

Short answer: Full-time employment is usually considered between 30-40 hours a week, while part-time employment is usually less than 30 hours a week.

MEAL BREAKS State law requires employers to offer at least one 30-minute meal break to employees who work 7 ½ consecutive hours or more. The break must occur sometime after two hours and before 5 A½ hours.

Under Connecticut law, employers must give a 30-minute meal break to employees who work at least seven and a half consecutive hours. An employer does not have to pay for this time; in other words, meal breaks are unpaid.

There is no state law requiring rest breaks; however, CT Gen. Stat. Sec. 31-51ii requires that employees who work for 71/2 or more consecutive hours be given a meal period of at least 30 minutes between the first two and last two hours of the shift.
