The District of Columbia Attorney Renewal Government Attorney Certification is a certification program for attorneys who are licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia. The program ensures that an attorney’s knowledge and skills are up to date and meets the highest standards of the legal profession. It is a voluntary program that requires attorneys to complete a set of continuing legal education courses and pass an exam every two years. There are two types of certification: Renewal Government Attorney Certification (RAC) and Renewal Government Attorney Certification Plus (RAC+). The RAC certification requires completion of 45 hours of continuing legal education over a two-year period, while the RAC+ certification requires completion of 90 hours of continuing legal education over a two-year period. Both certifications require the successful completion of the DC Bar Exam. Attorneys who are certified through the program are eligible for higher salaries, more job opportunities, and increased professional recognition.
