The Delaware Vehicle Inspection Program (VIP) is a state-run program that requires all registered vehicles in the state of Delaware to be inspected for safety and emissions annually. The program is administered by the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles and is designed to ensure that all vehicles on the road are in proper operating condition and meet emissions standards. The VIP has two main types of inspections: the Safety Inspection and the Emissions Inspection. The Safety Inspection includes a visual check of a vehicle’s lights, brakes, tires, suspension, and other safety components. The Emissions Inspection involves testing the vehicle’s exhaust system for emissions. The program also requires that all vehicles be titled and registered with the state. In order to pass the inspections, vehicles must meet specific standards set by the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles. If a vehicle fails an inspection, it must be repaired and reinspected before it can be legally operated on public roads. Failure to comply with the VIP regulations can result in fines and/or vehicle impoundment.
