The Delaware Ignition Interlock Device Program Application is a program developed by the Delaware Department of Transportation (Del DOT) to help those convicted of driving under the influence (DUI) regain their license. The program requires those convicted of DUI to install an ignition interlock device (DID) in their vehicle, which will prevent the vehicle from starting if the driver has alcohol in their system. This program is intended to help reduce the number of repeat offenses and to promote safe driving habits. There are two types of Delaware Ignition Interlock Device Program Application. The first is the Voluntary Application, which can be completed by anyone who has been convicted of a DUI in Delaware and would like to regain driving privileges. The second type is the Mandatory Application, which is required for anyone convicted of a DUI in Delaware regardless of their alcohol level. In order to participate in the Delaware Ignition Interlock Device Program, applicants must submit an application to the Del DOT, pay a fee, and then install the DID in their vehicle. The DID must be monitored regularly by a certified installer, and the applicant must also pass a breath test every time they attempt to start their vehicle. Once the requirements of the program have been met, the applicant can then be issued a restricted driver’s license, allowing them to drive with the DID in their vehicle.
