A Florida Statement of Claim is a document filed with the court to begin a civil lawsuit in the state of Florida. This document outlines the legal basis for the legal action, including the cause of action, the amount of damages sought, and the relief requested by the plaintiff. There are three types of Florida Statements of Claim: Complaint, Counterclaim, and Cross-Claim. A Complaint is the initial document filed by the plaintiff, which outlines the facts and allegations that support the claim. A Counterclaim is filed by the defendant in response to the plaintiff’s Complaint, and responds to the allegations made by the plaintiff. A Cross-Claim is a document filed by either the plaintiff or the defendant against any other party involved in the lawsuit. All of these documents must be signed under oath, and must be served upon the other parties to the lawsuit.
