Hawaii Return of Service (HRS) is an official document issued by the State of Hawaii in order to verify that an individual has served or is currently serving in the military. It is usually used to certify eligibility for certain state benefits or to document military service for other purposes. The types of Hawaii Return of Service include Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, Retired Reserve, and Veterans. Active Duty HRS is issued to those who have been discharged from active duty in the United States Armed Forces after completing a period of service. Reserve and National Guard HRS is issued to those who have served in the Reserve or National Guard components of the United States Armed Forces. Retired Reserve HRS is issued to those who have been honorably discharged from the Reserve or National Guard components of the United States Armed Forces after completing a period of service. Veterans HRS is issued to those who have been honorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces or any other branch of the United States Armed Forces.
