Hawaii Elevator Out of Service Certification is a document issued by the Hawaii Department of Labor & Industrial Relations, Elevator & Fire Safety Bureau. It is a legal document that certifies that an elevator is not operational and is out of service. This document is required for any elevator that is not in service due to maintenance, repair, or any other reason. There are three types of Hawaii Elevator Out of Service Certification: Type A, Type B, and Type C. Type A certifies that the elevator is out of service due to maintenance or repair and can be used in any commercial or residential building. Type B certifies that the elevator is out of service due to an emergency and can only be used in a commercial building. Type C certifies that the elevator is out of service due to a seismic event and can only be used in a residential building. All types of Hawaii Elevator Out of Service Certifications must be signed and dated by a licensed elevator contractor.
