Iowa Chapter 50 — Reserved is a set of laws found in the Iowa Code which reserve certain rights and privileges for the people of Iowa. These laws are divided into three main categories: general provisions, which are applicable to all citizens of Iowa; special provisions, which only apply to certain individuals or groups of people; and exclusive provisions, which are exclusive to the state of Iowa. General provisions include the right to bring a legal action against another person or entity, the right to an impartial jury trial, the right to a speedy trial, and the right to reasonable bail. Special provisions include the right to own property, the right to receive medical benefits, and the right to receive unemployment benefits. Exclusive provisions include the right to regulate the sale of alcohol, the right to regulate the sale of firearms, and the right to regulate the operation of casinos. In addition to these laws, Iowa Chapter 50 — Reserved also outlines the role of the state government in protecting the rights of its citizens, as well as providing guidance on the enforcement of these laws.
