Iowa Notice of Transfer of Reservation of Name is a document used to register a business name with the Iowa Secretary of State. This document is typically filed by an individual or entity that is taking over an existing business name reservation. The notice must be signed and notarized before filing. There are two types of Iowa Notice of Transfer of Reservation of Name: Transfer of Existing Reservation and Transfer of Fictitious Name. The Transfer of Existing Reservation is used when an individual or entity is taking over an existing business name reservation that has already been filed with the Iowa Secretary of State. The Transfer of Fictitious Name is used to transfer the rights to a business name that has not yet been registered with the Iowa Secretary of State. Both types of notices require the current owner of the reservation, the transferee, a description of the name reservation, and the signature of the current owner plus the signature of the transferee. Once the notice is filed, the new owner of the name reservation has the exclusive right to the name in Iowa for a period of five years.
