Iowa Protected Information Disclosure refers to the disclosure of protected information held by the state of Iowa. This includes Personally Identifiable Information (PIN) as well as Protected Health Information (PHI). PIN includes any data that can be used to identify an individual, such as social security numbers, dates of birth, driver's license numbers, and other sensitive information. PHI includes any health-related information that is confidential and protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). There are three types of Iowa Protected Information Disclosure: Disclosure to Authorized Persons, Disclosure to Designated Representatives, and Disclosure for Research Purposes. Disclosure to Authorized Persons is the disclosure of PIN or PHI to individuals or entities that have a right to access the information, such as law enforcement officials, government agencies, or healthcare providers. Disclosure to Designated Representatives is the disclosure of PIN or PHI to individuals or entities specifically designated by the data subject, such as family members or legal representatives. Disclosure for Research Purposes is the disclosure of PIN or PHI to researchers for the purpose of conducting research studies.
