The Iowa Application for Certification of Wildlife Habitat is a program designed to encourage and recognize landowners who voluntarily create and maintain wildlife habitat on their land. The program consists of three different types of applications: the Native Prairie Certification Program, the Forest Wildlife Certification Program, and the Wetland Wildlife Certification Program. The Native Prairie Certification Program is designed to help landowners create and maintain high-quality native prairie habitat on their land. The program provides technical assistance and recognition as a Certified Native Prairie Habitat. The Forest Wildlife Certification Program helps landowners create and maintain high-quality forest habitat on their land. The program provides technical assistance and recognition as a Certified Forest Wildlife Habitat. The Wetland Wildlife Certification Program helps landowners create and maintain high-quality wetland habitat on their land. The program provides technical assistance and recognition as a Certified Wetland Wildlife Habitat. All three programs require landowners to complete an application form and submit it to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Once the application is received, a staff member from the Department of Natural Resources will conduct a site visit to assess the quality of the habitat. If the habitat meets the criteria, the landowner will be notified and awarded a certificate of recognition.
