Idaho Service by Publication is a legal way to notify an individual of a pending court action. It is used when the whereabouts of the defendant are unknown, or when the defendant has left the state of Idaho. It is an effective way to provide notification of pending court proceedings in cases where the defendant is not able to be served with notice in person. There are two types of Idaho Service by Publication: standard and alternative. Standard Service by Publication requires the plaintiff to publish notice of the pending court action in a newspaper of general circulation in the county where the action has been filed. With Alternative Service by Publication, the plaintiff must post the notice of the pending action on the courthouse door, and the notice must remain posted for a minimum of 14 days.
