Illinois Acceptance of Office is a legal document that is used to appoint an individual as a state officer in the State of Illinois. It is executed by the individual accepting the office and witnesses who attest to the individual’s signature. It is an act of formal consent and acknowledgement that the individual is willing to accept the powers and duties of the office he/she is appointed to. There are two types of Illinois Acceptance of Office: the Oath of Office and the Acknowledgement of Office. The Oath of Office requires the individual to swear an oath before an officer authorized to administer oaths, while the Acknowledgement of Office requires the individual to sign an acknowledgement before a notary public or other officer authorized to take acknowledgements. Both documents are filed with the Office of the Secretary of State of Illinois.
