Illinois Summons to Confirm Judgment by Confession (also referred to as a Judgment on Confession) is a process in which a defendant may be sued by a creditor or other type of plaintiff. The defendant can then enter a written stipulation of liability for the debt, and the court will enter a judgment against the defendant in accordance with the stipulation. In Illinois, there are two types of Summons to Confirm Judgment by Confession. The first is a Summons to Confirm Judgment by Confession of Judgment, which is used when the defendant has already entered into an agreement with the plaintiff in which they agree to pay the full amount of the debt. The second type of Summons to Confirm Judgment by Confession is called a Summons to Confirm Judgment by Admission of Liability, which is used when the defendant has admitted to being liable for the debt but has not entered into an agreement with the plaintiff to pay the debt. In either case, the Summons to Confirm Judgment by Confession will require the defendant to appear in court on the date specified in the Summons and enter into a Judgment of Confession. The court will then enter a judgment against the defendant for the amount specified in the Summons, and the plaintiff will be able to collect the debt in accordance with the judgment.
