The Illinois General Chancery Court-annexed Mediation Order of Referral is a court-ordered program for resolving disputes in a constructive and expeditious manner. This program is designed to avoid a lengthy and costly court process. The program is governed by the Illinois Supreme Court Rules on Chancery Court Mediation and provides an opportunity for the parties to a dispute to negotiate a settlement in a confidential and non-adversarial setting. There are two types of Illinois General Chancery Court-annexed Mediation Order of Referral: the Standard and the Expedited. With the Standard Order, the parties must complete the mediation process within 90 days of the order being filed. The Expedited Order is similar but requires the parties to complete the mediation process within 45 days. Both orders require the parties to submit a joint status report to the court on the progress of the mediation.
