The Illinois Consent To Participate Mental Health Court Program is a voluntary program for individuals in the criminal justice system who have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder. This program provides an alternative to traditional criminal court proceedings, allowing those with mental health issues to receive treatment and support to help them stay out of the criminal justice system. The program includes case management, mental health treatment, and community services in order to help individuals achieve stability while participating in the program. There are two types of programs in Illinois: the Mental Health Court (MHC) Program and the Mental Health Diversion Program (MHD). The MHC Program is a court-supervised program that provides intensive case management, mental health treatment, and community based services. The MHD Program is a pre-trial diversion program that diverts individuals from the criminal justice system to mental health treatment and services.
